Meet the Owner

Corey Gerlach has more than 20 years experience in the green building industry.

In 1993, Corey earned his B.A. in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. After graduating, he married his two passions – sustainable living and building. He hired on with a small, local building company to gain practical experience and simultaneously began to research green building design and construction. Three years later, he built the first iteration of his own home, incorporating many of the green building elements he had read about, including a recast foundation, insulated concrete floors, a 5,000 gallon rainwater collection and storage system, solar hot water and passive solar. In 2000, Corey started Sugar Hollow Builders, a company devoted to environmentally sensitive design and construction.

Focused on Community

Sugar Hollow Builders has partnered with the Building Goodness Foundation on several projects. In Ft. Liberte, Haiti, we helped build a medical clinic that offers regular and urgent care. In San Mateo Ixtana, Guatemala, a remote area, we helped build the first ever high school. After hurricane Katrina, our entire crew traveled to Pearlington, MS to build shelters for residents struggling to remain in their town. Locally, we have taken part in Building Goodness Foundation projects like Christmas in April and constructing handicap ramps.
